Art. 1.
Non-profit organisation "de hondsjaren" and Use-it launch a composition competition for the playing drum of the carillon in Ghent as a result of "the periodical changing of the tunes". By participating in the contest, you agree to the rules without reservations.
Art. 2.
Anyone who lives in Belgium is free to participate.
Art. 3.
Each contestant must write a composition of not more than 10 bars of 4, lasting no longer than 30 seconds in total. The tune has to be sent in on a sound recording medium or on audio file (MP3). Received documents will not be returned and remain property of the organisers.
Art. 4.
You can find some original recordings of Ghent's carillon on bimbam.be by way of inspiration or as building material for your own composition. In participating, you acknowledge the carillon's technical restrictions.
Art. 5.
All entries must be original compositions and may not violate any third party's performing rights.
Art. 6.
Each participant must agree to the use of their melody on the carillon's playing drum and as a ringtone for cell phones without time restriction.
Art. 7.
Each participant is allowed to participate only once. All entries for the competition must be received no later than 31 January 2003. Entries without submitted entry forms are not valid.
Art. 8.
Use-it and NPO "de hondsjaren" are acting secretary of this competition.
Art. 9.
A jury consisting of musical pioneers will decide upon a winner as soon as possible after the closing date of the competition. The laureate's creation will then be transported onto the carillon's playing drum and played for a whole year, unless the city council of Ghent decides otherwise. If technically possible, the winning tune will also be available as a ringtone for cell phones.
Art. 10.
The city carilloneur may have to adjust the winning composition to the carillon's automatic mechanism. This will occur in agreement with the composer.
Art. 11.
The jury is not required to give account to the participants. Its decision is binding for all parties.
Art. 12.
The winner will be personally informed. A list of all the participants and their melodies will be published on bimbam.be after the competition.
Art. 13.
The organisers agree to a fair and serious proceeding of the competition.
Art. 14.
Disputes can only be settled by the courts of the city of Ghent.
